Paul Acland, BA. BArch (Auckland)
The New Zealand high country - sparse, remote, unpopulated, awe inspiring and uncultivated - was the social and physical landscape in which Paul Acland was born and raised. It is a landscape where place making and place marking was rudimentary, essential, and unregulated.

This combined with a rich family history both in the NZ and England of politics, patronage of the arts, architecture, and horticulture was the weave of Paul's formative years and is etched in his psyche.

Paul studied History and Architecture in NZ and then, graduating during a recession, worked where work took him - Hong Kong, Sydney, New York - before settling in London and establishing Paul+O Architects.

Central to Paul+O's philosophy is that the design intent should be carried through to the interiors and the garden. The architecture, interiors and the landscape should inform each other. Paul, who started gardening early in his youth, designs and if possible, digs, the gardens.
